The Self-Reflective Portraits are a barometer of who you are and who you are becoming in image and words

Inspired by a self-portrait that I painted in 2022, capturing my thoughts, feelings and shifting perceptions of self. What began as a creative experiment became a reminder that “my reality is not reality”, it is merely my perspective

Self-reflective portraits go beyond perception, utilising a meditative technique I learned to channel the inner states we all navigate: from contraction to expansion; victim to genius (borrowing the latin definition: one’s inner nature).

The intuitive reading dictates much of the text on the page, inflected with further insights from a brief interview. The colours and main image are selected by the sitter.

The result is a visual and emotional anchor; a personal reminder of who you are at your most inspired. The shadow aspects of the sitter are reserved for the back of the painting. These portraits help bring focus back to who you are, especially in moments when you’re feeling off track.
