Icons of London

The First 50

In my twentieth year of calling London home, I started asking people a simple question: who is London’s most iconic Londoner?
London is a city that has always welcomed people, ideas and argument in equal measure. This project is no different. The answers came from strangers, friends, colleagues and conversations on the street. Local legends, household names, outliers, rebels and the odd bandit. Each nomination said something about the person asking as much as the person being celebrated.

Fifty watercolour portraits. Fifty iconic Londoners. This is the first fifty.
You may agree with some. You may argue with others. Good. That’s the point.

Every portrait is accompanied by a quotation that reflects the spirit of the sitter. Limited edition prints of each portrait are available as museum-quality giclée prints on Hahnemühle German Etching fine art paper — scan the QR code on the label beside each work, or visit atelier-naf.com

The series is ongoing. Who would you nominate for the next fifty?
